Canadian Victorian Police Uniform Circa 1858
Sir James Douglas, Governor, appointed August Pemberton to establish a police
force in Victoria in 1858. The police force was established using the
Metropolitan Police Force as their plate. The uniform was in use from 1858 to
the turn of the century with slight modifications.
It consists of
Tunic made from fine melton wool, single breasted with a high stand collar, lower pockets with flaps, fully lined tunic with 2 inside pockets
Buttons are plain silver with 5 down the front
The trousers are again, Melton wool, half lined, high waisted with brace button attachments and two side slash pockets and white pipe down each leg
